Date of Work (2007) Time Spent Description
Week 1
  • January 8
2 hours
Selected & organized group, decided on name "insomnia design."

Declared project name as "Prism."

Began initial research on which parts would be necessary.
  • January 10
1 hour
Decided on Atmega16, MAX7313 LED drivers, and tricolor LEDs, other parts, etc.
  • January 12
1.5 hours
Began work on the circuit board.

Completed initial consultation.
Week 2
  • January 15
2 hours
Continued work on circuit board.

Researched more on Atmega16 chip.
  • January 17
3 hours
Continued work on circuit board.
Week 3
  • January 22
2 hours
Continued work on circuit board.
  • January 24
3 hours
Continued work on circuit board.
Week 4
  • January 29
2 hours
Worked on Engineering Journal.

Researched MX7313 LED driver chip.
  • January 31
3 hours
Continued work on the schematics and on the circuit board.
Week 5
  • February 4
1 hour
Worked on the schematics and on the circuit board.
  • February 5
2 hours
Worked on the schematics and on the PCB.
  • February 7
3 hours
Worked on the LED PCB.

Found out that there is no need for resistor packs.

Removed res. packs from schematics and PCB.

Tried to auto route the PCB but it failed conections.

Changed position of headers.
  • February 9
1 hour
Auto routed PCB.
Week 6
  • February 12
2 hours
Cleaned up auto-route of PCB.
  • February 14
3 hours
Discussed with Craig Maynard about routing the PCB board.

Talked with George on a better way to route the LED board.

Started rearranging the LEDs into a more consistant view.
Week 7
  • February 19
2 hours
Made each group of 16 LEDs into a 4x4 shape for easy routing.

Routed one group of 16 LEDs into a header, then copy pasted the rest of the LED groups.

Submitted it to Craig maynard for fabrication.
  • February 21
3 hours
Made changed to the LED board changed the ground to a +5.

Re submitted it to Craig Maynard.

Started to finish work on the microprocessor schemactic.

Dicussed with Dylan Sanders how to connect the DE-9 connector.
Week 8
  • February 26
2 hours
Continued work on the DE-9 connector.

Helped George with serial inertfacing.
  • February 27
1 hour
Started work on the Microporocessor PCB.
  • February 28
3 hours
Worked on the Microprocessor PCB.

Helped George with Serial inertfacing.
Week 9
  • March 2
2 hours
Worked on the Microprocessor PCB, placing footprints and laying down traces.
  • March 5
3 hours
Continued work on Microprocessor and placing traces on PCB.

Created schematic library symbol and footprint for the MAX233 chip.
  • March 7
1 hour
Worked on interfacing MAX233 chip on schematic sheet.
Week 10
  • March 12
3 hours
Continued soldering LEDs and Headers on LED PCB.

Discovered that we need to trim the headers down because they won't fit beside each other.
  • March 14
3 hours
Trimmed down the Headers to fit into the LED PCB.

Continued soldering the Headers.

Tested the Headers and the LEDs, replaced three that did not work.

Sent the Microporcessor PCB to Craig Maynard for manufacturing.
Week 11
  • March 19
3 hours
Recieved Microporcessor PCB.

Discovered a few errors on the board due to my error: the Atmega16 footprint was the wrong size, too small; the footprint for the DE-9 connector was incorrect, it will be easy to fix; will have to trim the Headers to fit into the board.
Week 12
  • March 26
2 hours
Trimmed down the Headers to fit into the Microprocessor PCB.

Finished soldering the Microprocessor PCB; three resistors, Atmega16 header, and the 16 pin headers.
  • March 28
3 hours
Gave the Microprocessor PCB an alcohol bath to clean off the flux residue.

Started designing the PRISM chassis, will be made from aluminum.
  • March 31
1 hour
Wrote down items, in a list, that could be wrong with the PCB.
Week 13
  • April 2
3 hours
Troubleshooting the Prism.
  • April 3
3 hours
Read AVR code.
Week 14
  • April 8
1 hour
Cut the pieces of aluminum to size.
  • April 10
2 hours
Cut and bent pieces of the aluminum case to actual shape and dimensions.
  • April 11
3 hours
Had Technical presentation, hardwired the LED board to show what the visualization could look like.
Week 15
  • April 16
2 hours
Helped out with organizing and cleaning out cupboard and other stuff to do for the business presentation.
  • April 16
1 hour
